Student Profile: Todd Bauer, PMP

I am a 40-year old Project Manager and Business Analyst for Security MicroImaging.  We are a top-tier Hyland reseller and provider of ECM solutions.  I have been technical for many years and evolved into the Project Management sphere, eventually arriving at a point where experience wasn’t enough and I needed a serious education and credentialing to move forward.

The PMP Certification was originally suggested by my supervisor.  I was not previously familiar with PMI.

The most difficult part of the studies was determining an effective study method.  IE, the best way to eat the elephant.

I learned about the PM PrepCast through my manager.  I used it in combination with a series of classes at Baldwin-Wallace and the Rita PMP Study Prep book (7th edition).

I wouldn’t say that anything is missing.  As an audio study program with slides, it’s very effective for those who learn best that way.

Ultimately, I settled on the Rita PMP Study Prep book as my primary preparation resource.

My #1 recommendation is to determine what study method works for you and create a project plan for obtaining the PMP.  For me, it was a great way to incorporate the material as I studied.

PS:  I didn’t read the PMBOK.  Based on my planning research, I identified that it wasn’t necessary and thus didn’t need to budget the time required to read it.
