Student Profile: Linda Dunn, PMP
My name is Linda Dunn. I am working as an IT Project Manager in the oil and gas industry. I started my career over 30 years ago as a Software Developer and have emerged through supporting Networking, Infrastructure, System Administration, and Project Management. I have been in various industries over the years: Manufacturing, Healthcare, Grocery Warehousing, Education, and Oil & Gas. It has been my goal to become PMP Certified but kept putting it off. I took a Project Management course at the local university in 2016 but seriously began my PMP certification in January 2018.
I am working in a huge IT service provider company on different customer-facing roles, mostly related to IT operations, but not limited. Previously, I worked a lot as IT project manager. Now I am closely dealing with PMs when accepting scope extension.
I am a seasoned project management professional, having a diverse career history in astrospace, aerospace, fiber optics, pharmaceuticals, software development, and medical devices. I am continually seeking new opportunities in employment as well as learning.
I have been writing, recording, and delivering technical training throughout the United States for 30 years (working as an independent contractor.) In that time I’ve taught PMP Certification courses, CCNP Certification courses and MOS Certification courses. In that time, I’ve delivered training at Apple, Google, and Microsoft. I currently hold 3 certifications from PMI and have always derived great value from the Podcast and PrepCast. I am a member of the Los Angeles chapter of PMI.
I am a senior Aerospace Engineer with several years of experience in the space and aviation industry to get the PMP because I wanted to consolidate my project management skills and to boost my career. I have to thank the PM PrepCast team for the material they provide to their students. In fact, without the PM PrepCast training course and the Exam Simulator, I doubt that I would have passed the exam considering every limited available time to study I had.
I'm a licensed Architect, LEED, and WELL Accredited Professional. My company, APTCS Group, is a consultancy company that provides construction and project management services in the Philippines. I pursued the PMP Certification as a validation of my competence in the services that I provide. Preparing for the exam is quite tough, as I need to run an office and also a family at the same time; but with determination and persistence, it has been a successful journey.

I was born in South Africa but spent my formative years in Malaysia and Australia. As a result of traveling from a young age, I developed a passion for visiting to new places and learning about different cultures. After completing high school, I decided to pursue a similar career to my father, who is a Process Engineer. I started the journey by graduating in Chemical Engineering at the RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) University in 2010. Shortly after, I accepted a job as a graduate Engineer at an engineering consultancy firm in Brisbane, Australia.
I have had an eclectic career. Non-IT and non-healthcare. My project management focus is at the corporate level...more PMO per se. My background has ranged from mergers and acquisitions, brand integration, procurement, construction, trade shows, events, estate executor, on and on. My current employment is in the automotive industry.
I work as an Operations and IT Adviser across Automotive, Aerospace, Health care, Shipping, Transport, Power, Computer Hardware, Gaming Console, Infrastructure, Lighting and Consumer lifestyle sectors. PMP is my first professional certification and the course helped me streamline my thoughts about project management and the processes and techniques involved within. The inclusion of agile concepts made PMP more relevant in the current scenario.
I am a software PM and after getting my PMP I scored an awesome new job! I have been managing software projects for about 2 years and get great joy out of it each and every day. I played football in college and knew I wanted to do something involving teamwork, being a PM has fulfilled that void for me.
